Megabus Review

Megabus in Chicago by compujeramey
I read a lot of mixed reviews about the Megabus but due to no other cheap options leaving at the right time, I decided to take it from New York to Boston. It was exactly what I would expect for what I paid ($18 one way).  The bus was clean, on-time, and crowded – which I guess is normal for a Friday night bus.

The only bad part of the experience was the waiting around and boarding process. It’s definitely worth it to get there 30 minutes early so you not only get a good seat, but also to figure out what’s going on. The busses load at the corner of 31st and 8th (outside Penn Station and across from Jimmy’s BBQ) and when you get to that corner it seems to be mass chaos with 3 different busses lining up at once.

I had to ask about ten people where the line was for Boston and about ten more people asked me the same thing. There is no covering at the pick-up corner so dress for the weather because you’ll be standing outside for awhile.

Once the boarding actually started it went fast and before I knew it was I was on the second level on the top decker bus (the four seats at the front of the 2nd level are the first seats to get taken). I plugged my phone charger in and was able to charge my phone the entire time.

I would definitely recommend the Megabus for affordable bus travel. Make sure to book ASAP since fares start at $1 and go up from there.

Have you had a Megabus experience that’s different from this one – post it below!
